The Best Adventure Movie You Never Saw: Kon-Tiki

Kon-Tiki is perhaps the greatest adventure movie you’ve never seen.

Which is a shame.

Because it’s a pretty outstanding film.

It features beautiful cinematography, an outstanding script, and is well acted.

So much in fact that the movie was nominated in 2013 for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

The movie was a huge hit internationally but failed to make…er…waves here Stateside.

The movie details the true story of Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl’s obsession with proving that the South Sea Islands were colonized by South Americans in Pre-Columbian times.

Thor decides to test his theory by sailing a balsa raft from Peru to the islands relying only on the technology available before Europeans first discovered the Americas.

This results in a three-month journey unlike anything Thor and his small crew could have expected.

Again, it’s a great movie filled with plenty of high seas adventure that undoubtedly fills viewers with true wanderlust.

If you mixed Ernest Hemingway, Robert Ruark, Hunter S. Thompson, and four shots of tequila in a blender, a "Gayne Young" is what you'd call the drink!
